Privacy Policy

Last Update: September 7, 2026

Correct Auto Repair Ltd. (“Correct Auto Repair”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through correctautorepair.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

This policy covers the Site. Personal information we collect at the shop when you bring a vehicle in, such as your contact details, vehicle information and repair history, is handled under the same principles, and you can ask us for details at any time using the contact information at the end of this policy.

1. The law that applies

As an Alberta business, we handle personal information in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Where personal information crosses provincial or national borders, Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) may also apply.

As PIPA requires, we have designated an individual responsible for our compliance with the Act. You can reach that person using the contact information in section 11.

2. What we mean by personal information

Personal information is information about an identifiable individual. It includes your name, phone number, email address and vehicle details. It does not include business contact information used solely to contact you in your professional capacity, or information that has been aggregated so that no individual can be identified.

3. What we collect

(a) Information you give us

When you fill in the contact form on the Site, we collect the name, email address, subject line and message you provide. If you email or call us using the details on the Site, we collect whatever you choose to tell us, which usually includes your name, contact details and a description of your vehicle concern.

Please do not send us payment card details, banking information, or government identification numbers through the Site. We do not ask for them there and we do not need them to answer an enquiry.

(b) Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs. These record your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you request, the date and time, and the page that referred you. We use these logs to keep the Site running, to diagnose problems, and to protect against abuse and unauthorized access.

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Site, so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as your approximate location, the pages you view and how long you spend on them. We do not use it to identify you personally. Information collected by Google Analytics is subject to Google’s own privacy policy, and you can opt out using Google’s browser add-on.

(c) Information collected by embedded content

Some pages display content hosted by other companies, specifically an Instagram photo feed and a Google map. When a page containing that content loads, your browser connects directly to Instagram (Meta) or Google, which means those companies receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, whether or not you have an account with them. We do not control that collection, and it is governed by those companies’ privacy policies rather than this one.

4. Why we collect it

We use personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate, namely to:

  • respond to your enquiry, answer questions, and arrange a time to look at your vehicle;
  • contact you about a vehicle currently in for service, including to discuss findings, provide an estimate, and obtain your authorization before work proceeds;
  • keep records of the work we do and the communications relating to it;
  • operate, secure, maintain and improve the Site; and
  • comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, including those that apply to AMVIC-licensed businesses.

We do not use the information you send through the Site to send you marketing or promotional messages, and we do not add you to a mailing list. If that ever changes, we will ask for your consent first, as Canada’s anti-spam legislation requires.

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.

5. Consent

By sending us a message through the Site, you consent to our collecting and using the information in it for the purposes described above. Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before using your information for a new purpose.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. If you withdraw consent, we may not be able to continue answering your enquiry or servicing your vehicle. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it, and does not require us to delete records we are required to keep.

6. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only in these situations:

  • Service providers. Companies that host the Site, deliver our email, and provide website analytics process information on our behalf. They may only use it to provide the service to us, and are required to protect it.
  • Suppliers and affiliates, where necessary for your repair. For example, ordering a part for your vehicle or processing a claim under a manufacturer or program warranty.
  • Professional advisors. Our accountants, lawyers or insurers, where reasonably required.
  • Where the law requires or permits it. Including in response to a court order, a lawful request from AMVIC or another regulator, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
  • A business transaction. If our business is sold or reorganized, information may be transferred to the purchaser, who would be bound to use it for the same purposes.

7. Where it is stored

Our website host, email provider and analytics provider may store or process information on servers located outside Alberta, including in the United States. When information is held in another country, it may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country under its laws. We take reasonable steps to ensure our providers give the information a comparable level of protection.

8. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, or as long as the law requires. As a general guide, enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for up to two years, and records relating to work performed are kept for at least the period required of AMVIC-licensed businesses and by tax and limitations legislation. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. When information is no longer needed, we destroy, erase or anonymize it.

9. How we protect it

We use reasonable physical, organizational and technological safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. The Site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, access to records is limited to people who need it to do their job, and paper records are kept secure at the shop.

No method of transmitting or storing information is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach of our security creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta as PIPA requires.

10. Your rights

Under PIPA you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you, and be told how it has been used and who it has been disclosed to;
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • Withdraw consent to our continued use of your information, as described in section 5; and
  • Complain about how we have handled your information.

To make a request, contact us using the details in section 11. We may ask you to verify your identity before we respond. We will respond within 45 days, unless we are entitled to an extension of up to a further 30 days, in which case we will tell you. In limited circumstances the law permits or requires us to refuse access; if that happens, we will tell you why and explain how to seek a review.

There is no charge to request access to your own personal information. If a request requires substantial time or copying, we may charge a reasonable fee, and we will give you an estimate first so you can decide whether to proceed.

If we make a significant change to how we use personal information we have already collected, we will seek your consent where the law requires it.
